Three Dead on Exodus Way: What We Know About the Westside Stabbing
Jacksonville police say Edwin Barber, Savannah Barber, and Shad Cole were killed in a Thursday morning stabbing on Exodus Way. Austin Fisher, 30, is charged with three counts of second-degree murder and armed robbery.
Three people are dead after a stabbing in Jacksonville's Normandy Estates area, and a 30-year-old man is now facing three murder charges.
According to reports citing the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, police identified the victims as Edwin Barber, 49, Savannah Barber, 27, and Shad Cole, 37. The attack happened Thursday morning, May 28, 2026, on Exodus Way on the Westside.
Police have charged Austin Fisher, 30, with three counts of second-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, according to News4JAX. He was ordered held without bond after a Friday morning first appearance.
Charges are allegations. Fisher is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
What police have said so far
The first emergency call came in during the 3 a.m. hour Thursday. Action News Jax reported that officers were called to the 1300 block of Exodus Way at about 3:50 a.m. for a report of a person stabbed.
When officers arrived, they found Edwin Barber on a front porch with a stab wound to his chest, according to News4JAX's account of JSO's update. Investigators later said Barber had been stabbed at his own home down the street and made it to a neighbor's house for help.
As officers searched the area, they found two more victims. Police said Savannah Barber was found inside a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Cole was found on the porch of another home, also with multiple stab wounds.
Savannah Barber and Cole died before they could receive medical attention, according to police. Edwin Barber was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The victims
The names now released by police put faces to what first came across as a vague "triple stabbing." Action News Jax reported that Amy Barber identified Savannah Barber as her daughter and Edwin Barber as her husband.
That matters. Public safety stories can flatten people into numbers: three dead, one charged, one neighborhood rattled. But this was a family and a street waking up to a scene no neighbor expects to find at their own front door.
Action News Jax also reported that a neighbor described finding blood on her porch, front door, and doorbell after the attack. Another neighbor told News4JAX the killing left him shaken about his family's safety.
The arrest
News4JAX reported that investigators received community tips pointing to Fisher as a suspect. JSO said he was found hiding at a motel in the Normandy Village area.
Police said the SWAT Team responded to take Fisher into custody. After a standoff that lasted several hours, Fisher was arrested.
At his Friday, May 29, 2026 first appearance, Fisher was ordered held without bond, according to News4JAX. His next court date was reported as June 18.
What has not been answered
JSO initially described the case as domestic-related, but police have not publicly explained Fisher's relationship, if any, to the three victims. They also have not released a full motive.
That distinction is important. "Domestic" can mean several things in police language, and until investigators or court records spell out the relationships and sequence of events, the public should be careful not to fill in blanks.
What is confirmed right now is narrower and grim enough: three people were killed on Exodus Way, a suspect is in custody, and the case has moved into the courts.
